Job Description:
Construction Innovations is seeking an analytical and
detail-oriented individual with an eye for accuracy to serve as
Chief Estimator. The Chief Estimator is responsible for the
day-to-day management of the Estimating team, including oversight
of the estimating processes, methodologies and technologies, and
training team members in the use of estimating tools and analytics.
The ideal candidate will have the ability to perform detailed
analyses of historical cost data, and use that data along with
feedback from stakeholders to ensure the assemblies used for
estimating contain accurate material and labor assumptions.
Qualifications Qualification Must have: -
- 8+ years' experience in estimating and/or field experience with
an electrical, construction or consulting company
- 5 years' experience managing direct reports
- Renewable energy, substation, transmission and distribution
estimating experience is highly preferred
- Deep understanding of estimating techniques and cost control
and profit/loss principles.
- Understanding of electrical installation methods, National
Electrical Code (NEC) and National Electrical Safety Code (NESC)
for renewable, commercial, industrial and/or utility
construction
- Advanced experience using estimating software programs such as
AccuBid, including creation, analysis and management of estimating
assemblies
- Digital takeoff experience using LiveCount or equivalent WORK
ENVIRONMENT: The Chief Estimator spends most of their time in an
office environment, but may also spend time on project sites or at
the company's manufacturing plant. The office is an open and
collaborative space where you will work both independently and with
the team. When on-site, you will be in a construction environment,
which may be in fairly remote rural locations, and where you may
encounter extreme weather conditions. When at the plant, you will
be in a more traditional manufacturing environment, with higher
noise levels and frequent movement of people and equipment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: -
- Regularly sit, stand, and walk for long and short
distances.
- Required to hear with or without correction to be able to
interpret and receive information and directions.
- Regularly required to communicate: verbal and written, in order
to describe and explain detailed, important, and accurate
instructions.
- Occasionally lift and/or move material up to 25lbs.
- Occasionally stoop, kneel, or crouch.
- Noise level is usually moderate. Responsibilities Include but
are not limited to:
- Directly supervise Estimators and Senior Estimators, assigning
and coordinating their scopes of work for each project.
- Oversee team member recruitment, on-boarding, employee
engagement and issue resolution.
- Identify skill gaps and continuous education needs, and
facilitate training as needed for team members.
- Oversee the creation, implementation and maintenance of
departmental processes and performance metrics to meet the
company's quality objectives.
- Collaborate with and support Preconstruction Managers' design
and pricing strategies.
- Verify accuracy of specifications, estimating scopes and
pricing prepared by estimating staff.
- Monitor and communicate market data regarding material cost
trends that could affect current and future project costs.
- Support the development of conceptual design estimates for
projects using past experience and historical data when preliminary
design information is incomplete and/or limited.
- Track and analyze historic cost data and use market data to
forecast future material costs, and apply to current
estimates.
- Collaborate with Supply Chain to solicit subcontractor and/or
supplier information, quotes and pricing, when needed.
- Analyze electrical drawings to evaluate alternate means and
methods to determine the most optimized and economical option.
- Obtain and/or develop labor units for both manufacturing and
installation of products to ensure accuracy of these units within
the estimating databases.
- Lead and facilitate value engineering sessions with the project
team and design team.
