Job Description:

The Medical Assistant is part of the Perinatal department and works with the medical services staff to assist with medical visits and provide initial patient intake. The Medical Assistant works as part of a multidisciplinary team composed of the clinic services coordinator, physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and community health workers educators to provide comprehensive care to a primarily low income, non-English speaking population. CommuniCare Health Centers is a Federally Qualified Health Center providing comprehensive patient-centered primary care services including medical, dental, substance abuse treatment, behavioral health, and outreach services to low income, multi-ethnic, uninsured, and underinsured populations.SCHEDULE: Fill-in, Monday through Friday (some evenings required). 0-40 hours per week. Will work at all sites. May be required to travel depending on business needsRESPONSIBILITIES:The following reflects management's definition of essential functions for this job but does not restrict the tasks that may be assigned. Management may assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this job at any time with reasonable accommodation.Under clinician supervision, provide initial patient intake including medical history, financial screening, vital signs, and form completion for infants, adolescents, and adults of all ages.Provide services in an age-appropriate manner with attention to the needs of infants, teens, and adults with physical impairment.Perform medical patient assisting work including height, weight, head circumference, temperature, pulse, respiratory rate, and blood pressure. Perform vision and hearing screening. Complete accurate medical chart documentation.Assist the clinicians with EKG's, ear lavage, applying or removing bandages, sutures, splints, slings and casts, injections, PPD skin tests, breathing treatments, pulse oximetry and other medical procedures.Assist midwives and practitioners with medical intake, room set-up, procedures, lab work, referrals, medical charting, and all other aspects of patient care required. Perform medical patient assisting tasks, including blood pressures, height and weights, and injectionsPerform phlebotomy, urine collection, and basic waived laboratory tests and assist with lab duties.Provide one to one patient education as directed by the clinician.Assist Site Administrator and Clinic Manager with medical visits, patient interviews, referrals and all other aspects of patient care as required. May be asked to call clients to schedule/remind about appointments.Provide translation for non-English speaking clients as needed.Maintain all clinic logs and clean and stock patient care areas and workstations.Attend monthly up-date meetings, in-services, and trainings.May assist with inventory, ordering and stocking medical supplies.Assist with other duties as assigned.Enter patient data in the computer to certify patient in a specific programMINIMUM POSITION REQUIREMENTS:Education & Experience: Completion of M.A. training program required. Phlebotomy certificationpreferred. One year of M.A. experience in an outpatient setting. Experience working in a health clinic ordemonstrated commitment to low-income populations. Current CPR certification required.Special Skills/Equipment: Bilingual Spanish/English required. Perform phlebotomy and basiclaboratory duties. Must provide proof of current driver's license and auto insurance. Demonstrate the skills to provide age-appropriate care to the clients of the clinic. Demonstrate knowledge of the principals of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to interpret information relative to the patients age related needs.Expectations: Attendance and punctuality is necessary. Ability to work well with a multidisciplinaryteam. Ability to problem solve and be self-motivated. Must have a commitment to excellence and highstandards. Must have effective and flexible written and oral skills, strong organizational, problemsolving, and analytical skills. Must have ability to manage priorities and workflow. Required to have versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm and have acute attention to detail. Expected to have strong interpersonal skills and have the ability to understand and follow written/verbal instructions. Able to work independently with little or no supervision. Required to have the ability to deal effectively with a diversity of individuals at all organizational levels and with external customers.
