Position Details

Job Title Director of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Job Summary

Working with College leadership, lead the development and implementation of proactive diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, including compliance in equity and federal and state laws in support of the College's strategic plan to create a learning and working environment where all have an opportunity to succeed. The Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion champions the importance and value of an equitable, diverse, and inclusive college environment and leads the development of a vision and effective strategy to create this caring campus culture.


Essential Functions

Works with other departments regarding the College's programs and compliance in equity and Title IX, Title VII, Clery Act, VAWA, ADA, FERPA, HIPPA, and other state and federal laws pertaining to discrimination and/or equity in higher education.

Provide strategic leadership for developing and maintaining Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) policies and plans; collaborate with campus leaders, faculty, students, staff, and internal and external constituencies to ensure programming supports the college's values and strategic goals

Actively engage students, faculty, and staff to further behaviors, attitudes, and policies that support diversity, equity, and inclusion

Establish and oversee a diversity, equity, and inclusion taskforce that will guide institutional transformation associated with DEI; assist in the promotion and implementation of related programs, projects, and initiatives; collaborate with college stakeholders to assess the need for, and recommend training initiatives on cultural competency, gender differences, disability, sexual harassment, and other topics designed to increase awareness and support of equity and inclusion values, and maintaining compliance with applicable laws

Work collaboratively with Executive Vice President and Division Chairs to support inclusive excellence in both curriculum and the classroom through the implementation of pedagogy and activities supporting DEI.

Work with the recruiting, academic advising, and retention efforts to support the recruitment, matriculation, persistence, graduation, and success outcomes of students, with a focused interest on increasing the DEI experiences of all student populations

Work with Human Resource Services to provide vision and support to integrate DEI practices into institutional employment and workplace practices, including emerging best practices for recruiting and retaining faculty and staff

Assist with Title IX complaints, including working with other institutional investigators, conducting research, and compiling reports for administrative review; maintain accurate records, and maintain compliance with applicable laws in collaboration with the Title IX Officer, other investigators, and College stakeholders

Guide efforts to communicate to the College community the school's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (including race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, nation origin, citizenship status, disability, socio-economic background, etc.) as an institutional and educational priority by defining, fostering, conceptualizing, and assessing these values

Plan and host public events on the subject of diversity, equity, and inclusion on campus utilizing both internal resources (internal campus speakers) and feature external guests speakers to broaden the horizon of stakeholders

Provide leadership on working groups, committees, and councils, representing the area of DEI, across campus and externally; assess, analyze, and prepare reports; provide updates on institutional-wide progress of DEI initiatives

Attend relevant external conferences and captures, shares and manages the knowledge gained that will sustain DEI efforts across the campus.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities

Perform additional duties as assigned.


Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a related area (i.e., social justice, higher education, sociology, human resources, management - organizational diversity & inclusion leadership, public administration or other related field) plus three (3) to four (4) years of successful experience advancing diversity, equity, inclusion and community building in a complex organization or relevant experience in a role directly related to equity, diversity, and inclusion efforts is required. Master's degree with a minimum of two (2) years of experience preferred. Equivalent combination of education, experience and professional credentials may be substituted. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with all constituents of the institution and with diverse groups/populations. Strong communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills. Strong problem solving and analytical skills. Demonstrated ability to cultivate a common vision and collaborative culture to achieve institutional goals and values related to equity, diversity and inclusion. Ability to support the college in decision-making that is informed by data, best practices, and emerging knowledge related to equity, diversity, inclusion and cultural competency. Demonstrated knowledge, skills, awareness of and commitment to contemporary issues of inclusion, social justice, diversity, access, and equity, including the current research and pedagogical approaches that inform and address these issues. Must possess the flexibility and capacity to oversee, prioritize and execute a variety of strategic partnerships and initiatives and multiple projects concurrently.

Physical Demands

Requires frequent and continuous sitting/moving about, continuous use of fine motor skills, and pushing and pulling of up to 20 lbs.


Must be available to work 40 hrs. per week with normal work hours from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required.

Salary Grade B Salary $55,825
