Job Title Part-Time Temporary Sign Language Interpreter/Reader
Clovis Community College is accepting applications for part-time
Sign Language Interpreters and Readers. Flexibility with schedule
is required as day and evenings may be required.
Sign Language Interpreter: To provide Sign Language translation
between spoken/sign language in a variety of settings including,
but not limited to, special education classrooms, regular education
classrooms, vocational programs, work sites, or other special
activities such as extracurricular activities and non-academic
situations. Follows the interpreter and classroom schedule and
interprets for student(s) as directed by administration. To be
available on a need basis for school functions outside the
classroom, during regularly scheduled school and extracurricular
hours such as: conferences & workshops. Assists the teacher(s) by
working with students on individual and/or small group
instructional activities. Utilizes instructional plans, strategies,
methods, materials and techniques that meet the individual
educational needs of students with hearing impairments.
Demonstrates a positive attitude in working with student, parents,
other staff members and community members. Maintain confidentiality
with respect to student & staff information.
Reader: Reading exams directly to disabled student on the
computer or from paper; marking answer sheet if necessary; work is
performed independently under the supervision of Disability
Services. Outstanding communication skills and ability to
communicate with the student to schedule the exams. Must maintain
Additional Duties and Responsibilities
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Sign language interpreter- high school diploma. An interpreter
for the deaf/hard of hearing shall meet the qualifications as set
forth in Deaf Persons' Interpreters Act, 1982 PA 204 as amended
2007 -Rules June 2014; EIPA elementary or secondary score of 4.0. A
command of both written & oral English including syntax, semantics,
& spelling, ability to interact/communicate effectively as a team
member with students & staff, must have good attendance history,
and outstanding communications skills.
Reader- Graduation from high school or equivalent required;
strong oral reader with good command of the English language;
well-developed verbal skills and vocabulary; ability to read
standardized paragraph at screening.
Requires continuous movement within the College, continuous
sitting and handling of small objects such as paper and pen.
Requires pushing and pulling of up to 10 lbs.
Salary Grade Salary Sign Language Interpreter: Depending on
certification held; Reader: $10 hourly
