Job Description:
The clinical Laboratory Scientist has a California State license
and performs tests requiring the exercise of independent judgment,
assigned administrative duties and responsibility under the general
direction of the Laboratory Director, Laboratory Manager, and
Laboratory Supervisor. This includes all the necessary processes
ancillary to such testing including, but not limited to,
phlebotomy, equipment and glassware maintenance, reporting of
findings, record keeping, reagent monitoring and ordering, quality
assurance and quality improvement procedures, development of new or
modified test procedures, and necessary administrative duties as
may be assigned. The Clinical Laboratory Scientist will perform
only those tests for which the scientist is qualified by education,
training, and/or experience. Essential Function • Performs
technical procedures maintaining accuracy, precision, and meeting
department time frames. • Reports and interprets lab results
accurately meeting turnaround time exceptions. • Maintains
reagents, supplies, and equipment for the department. • Assist with
the ordering, collecting and processing of laboratory specimens
when needed. • Performs projects and writes policies/procedures or
reports, within time frame given. • Documenting and/or gathering
data as required. • Participation in the Laboratory QA/QI program •
Incident documentation and reporting. Job Requirements Minimum
Requirements: Education and Experience: • Education Level:
Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with a
major in a biological science (Required upon hire). • Experience:
Meeting current licensure with the State of California as a
Clinical Laboratory Scientist (Required upon hire). Licensure and
Certifications • Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) (Required upon
hire). Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Training (KSAs) •
Demonstrated knowledge of modern clinical laboratory technique and
procedures, including accepted Quality Control practices and
knowledge of statistics (Required upon hire). • Demonstrated
knowledge of modern clinical laboratory techniques and procedures,
aseptic technique and proper safe technique in the handling of
hazardous materials and biological specimens. • Knowledge of
applicable laws and regulations relating to Health Information
Management and Coding And the Health Insurance Portability and
Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). • Ability to: Work as a team to
meet the team goals and objectives. • Ability to establish
priorities among multiple needs, meet deadlines and maintain
standards of productivity. • Maintain a high degree of accuracy and
precision on a consistent basis in the performance of laboratory
procedures. • Treat co-workers, patients, visitors, and the public
