Position Overview:Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento is the foundation of Sutter Health, Northern California's largest health network with 29 acute care hospitals, more than 5,000 primary care physicians and specialists, home health, occupational health, psychiatric care and more. The downtown Sacramento medical center is made up of several facilities that include Ose Adams Medical Pavilion, Anderson Lucchetti Women's & Children's Center, and Sutter Center for Psychiatry.Sutter Center for Psychiatry places the patient first and always. We provide compassionate care, showing dignity and respect to the individual while focusing on safety and involvement of the individual and their family. Our recovery model is a program that empowers and encourages the patient and family to be active participants in treatment decisions and development of skills and tools to support them in their daily life. We provide services to children from age 5 to elderly patients through a spectrum of care that allows each person to find the level of care needed to return to an active, healthy life. We encourage family members and significant others to participate in each patient's care by taking part in education services, therapy and support groups.The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner -(NP) will work equally in the emergency department providing consultation and evaluations and -addressing escalations for the telepsychiatry service in partnership with the medical director and physicians. - The psychiatric NP will provide care and monitoring of patients with the functional guidance of Psychiatric Consult and Liaison Physician. - This care includes working closely in formulating the treatment plan and follow up of medication management for patients.Qualifications:Education and licensure required for the position are: - - - - - - - - - - -

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
  • Master of Science or Master's Degree in Nursing within one year of hire.
  • Post Masters Nurse Practitioner Certificate - Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner within one year of hire.
  • Current License as a Register Nurse in the State of California.
  • Current License as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of California.
  • Current Basic Life Support Certification.
  • Valid DEA Certificate. -Experience:
    • Minimum of two years prior experience in hospital acute care nursing of which at least one year is in the area of mental health providing direct patient care to adults, child and adolescent experience preferred. -
    • Prior experience in a psychiatric outpatient setting is required.
    • Experience working in a psychiatric multidisciplinary team preferred. -
    • Previous experience working as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner preferred.
    • Program coordination or team leading experience is desirable. -Knowledge:
      • Demonstrated knowledge of DSM IV-TR is required. -
      • Demonstrated knowledge in the de-escalation of agitated, poorly self-controlled individuals.
      • Demonstrated knowledge in the prescribing of psychotropic medication required
      • Knowledge in the area of mental health counseling, to include assessment, interpretation, management and evaluation of patient care. -
      • Program development, implementation and evaluation knowledge is preferred.
      • Must possess excellent organizational skills and have the ability to be self-directed and act independently demonstrating sound judgment.
      • Knowledge and experience in interviewing and performing complete histories and physical and mental health exams.
      • Demonstrates excellent oral and written communication skills.
      • Must be able to work with adaptability, flexibility and maintain composure during pressure situations and adverse conditions.
      • Ability to write legibly and knowledge of approved abbreviations.
      • Must have ability to work in a collaborative role with other disciplines.
