Samsara (NYSE: IOT) is the pioneer of the Connected Operations™
Cloud, which is a platform that enables organizations that depend
on physical operations to harness Internet of Things (IoT) data to
develop actionable insights and improve their operations. At
Samsara, we are helping improve the safety, efficiency and
sustainability of the physical operations that power our global
economy. Representing more than 40% of global GDP, these industries
are the infrastructure of our planet, including agriculture,
construction, field services, transportation, and manufacturing —
and we are excited to help digitally transform their operations at
scale. Working at Samsara means you’ll help define the future of
physical operations and be on a team that’s shaping an exciting
array of product solutions, including Video-Based Safety, Vehicle
Telematics, Apps and Driver Workflows, and Equipment Monitoring. As
part of a recently public company, you’ll have the autonomy and
support to make an impact as we build for the long term. About the
role: Samsara is seeking a Director of Engineering to define and
drive the next generation of our Routing products—a critical,
high-visibility domain powering how our customers move people,
vehicles, and goods efficiently and safely. This leader will
oversee the entire lifecycle of routing from Route Planning through
Route Execution shaping these into cohesive, scalable platforms and
incubating new product bets in the routing ecosystem. You will
combine strategic product thinking with deep engineering rigor to
build systems that directly influence the efficiency of the world’s
physical operations. You’ll lead a world-class engineering
organization responsible for building the foundation of Samsara’s
intelligent routing stack—from real-time route optimization,
exception handling to next-gen driver experiences powered by data
and AI. This is a remote position open to candidates in the U.S.
Relocation assistance will not be provided for this role. What
You’ll Do • Define the Technical and Product Vision: Set the
long-term architecture and technical direction for the Routing &
Navigation portfolio. Balance innovation with operational
excellence, ensuring scalability, reliability, and exceptional user
experience. • Drive Product-Focused Engineering Execution: Partner
closely with Product and Design leaders to translate customer needs
and product strategy into an actionable roadmap. Ensure your teams
ship with speed, quality, and measurable customer impact. • Scale
and Inspire a High-Performing Organization: Lead and grow a
multi-team, multi-level engineering organization (including
managers and ICs). Foster a culture of technical ownership,
autonomy, and product intuition, empowering teams to make bold,
data-driven decisions. • Accelerate Innovation in New Bets:
Identify and incubate new product opportunities in the routing and
logistics space, exploring emerging areas such as predictive
routing, real-time re-optimization, and connected navigation
experiences. • Champion Operational Excellence: Build for scale and
reliability—owning performance, monitoring, and on-call health
across critical routing services that support thousands of fleets
in motion. About You • Proven Technical Depth: Experience
architecting and scaling distributed systems in domains such as
routing engines, mapping services, telematics, logistics
optimization, or other real-time systems. • Engineering Leadership:
10 years of engineering experience with at least 5 years leading
multi-team organizations managing managers. Proven record of
building strong engineering cultures and mentoring technical
leaders. • Product-Driven Mindset: Ability to deeply understand
customer workflows and partner with Product to make tradeoffs
between speed, impact, and quality. • Operational Excellence: Track
record of driving availability, performance, and security for
mission-critical SaaS systems in high-growth environments. •
Strategic Leadership: Exceptional ability to connect technical
architecture to long-term business and product strategy. Skilled at
scaling systems and organizations simultaneously. Preferred
Qualifications • BS/MS in Computer Science or a related technical
field. • Experience scaling products and revenue through a high
growth phase. • Background in B2B SaaS, telematics, or mobility
platforms. • Experience with mapping data (e.g., OSM, HERE, Google
